Measures of academic performance

  • \(N\) Number of papers

    Total number of papers published by the academic in scientific journals.

  • \(C\) Citation count

    Total number of citations to the papers published by the academic.

  • \(h\) h-index

    The largest value of \(h\) such that the academic has published \(h\) papers that each is cited at least \(h\) times.

  • \(i_{10}\) i10-index

    The number of papers published by the academic that each is cited at least 10 times.

Measures of academic vanity

  • \(V_\%\) Vanity fraction

    Fraction of academic's total citation count that are self-citations.

  • \(\overline{V}\) Average vanity

    Average number of self-citations in papers published by the academic.

  • \(V\) Vanity index

    The largest value of \(V\) such that the academic has published \(V\) papers that each self-cites at least \(V\) other papers.

  • \(h^\uparrow\) Self-inflated h-index

    Value of academic's h-index if only self-citations were counted.
